Generic Name: Cetirizine HCI
Use
Zyrtec is a non-sedating antihistamine that is very popular for combatting allergies.
It blocks the symptoms of runny nose, watery and itchy eyes, sneezing and hay
fever, and brings relief so that you can still be at full alertness which lasts
for 24 hours.
How to take it
Take Zyrtec allergy medication by mouth once a day. Take each dose of with a
full glass of water. It may be taken with or without food.
Side effects
Side effects that may occur are agitation, dry mouth, drowsiness or headache,
do not differ significantly from placebo. Very occasionally, symptoms of hypersensitivity
have been reported.
Precautions
Inform your doctor of your medical history, including all allergies, especially
drug allergies. Tell your doctor if you have kidney, liver, thyroid or heart
disease. Tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, asthma or have ever
had a seizure. Tell them if you drink alcohol. Consult your doctor if you are
pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding. Inform them
of all prescription medications you are currently taking, including those available
without a prescription. It is especially important that your doctor knows if
you are taking other cough, cold or allergy medicines, antidepressants, sedatives,
sleeping pills, tranquilizers, narcotics, barbiturates, psychiatric medicines,
muscle relaxants, diet pills, high blood pressure medications, or medications
for the treatment of anxiety. Since the prescription Zyrtec allergy medication
may cause drowsiness or dizziness, do not drive or perform potentially dangerous
tasks until you know how your body will respond to the Zyrtec allergy medication.
Drinking alcohol may intensify drowsiness and dizziness while you take it.
